My loaf pans are slightly bigger than the "standard" size so regular recipes don't fill them or if I double the recipe then sometimes it overfills them so the pieces are too tall for the toaster. Anyway I think I *finally* have a recipe I've settled on that works for me. If you have standard bread pans than this should make the equivalent of 2 loaves + 1 mini loaf (which is perfect for kids to help with in the kitchen!)
4 cups White Flour
4 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
7 T. Sugar
1 1/2 T. Salt
3 T. oil
3 T. Yeast
3 cups warm water
Add yeast to warm water and add in 1 T. sugar. Let it stand for 10 minutes.Mix 4 cups Whole Wheat Flour, 6 T. sugar, salt, and oil. Add the yeast mixture. Mix. Slowly add in white flour 1 cup at a time. Knead for 10 minutes. Set in oiled bowl to rise until doubled in size - about 1 hour. Punch down and form into loaves. Place in greased loaf pans and allow to rise until about 1 inch above rim of pans (about 1 hour). Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
